The Xbox One was recently announced by Microsoft and will face the Playstation 4 by Sony announced just last month which leaves many gamers wondering which console is better? What console has the better features, controllers, games, graphics, design, and hardware? This video pits the Xbox One vs Playstation 4 to determine what console looks the best (so far). I also give my personal opinion as to what console currently has the leading edge in the console wars.

The Oculus Rift is a virtual reality device that uses a special version of stereoscopic 3D to immerse the gamer into the game itself. Essentially, instead of using the right-analog stick to look around. You would use your entire head to do so. The Rift will likely be available a couple years from now for the next generation of consoles from both Sony and Microsoft for their respective consoles; Xbox 720 and the Playstation 4.
—-ARTICLE FROM GEEK.COM—-
Only weeks away from shipping the first batch of developer edition headsets to those who participated in the Kickstarter, Oculus is here at CES 2013 showing off their updated software and plans moving forward. Being in Las Vegas, I was able to sit for latest version of the Oculus Rift headset.
Gamers all over the world took notice when the Oculus Rift showed up on Kickstarter. The VR helmet of days past resurrected to embrace modern technology… how could you not want one? After the Kickstarter, Oculus was able to partner with John Carmack and Valve to start giving the headset an impressive launch scenario. Nearly everyone who has been able to put hands on an early prototype, including Geek.com’s own Sam Cook, has had great things to say.
First things first, though, which is where the developer program kicks in. As the first batch starts to roll off the production line, the Oculus team have dramatically improved their software to include Unity support and a new predictive response to head gestures that make the whole experience feel smoother.
This was my second time wearing an Oculus Rift this week. The headset I used the first time did not have the latest software. This might seem like the first try was a wasted effort, but it gave me an interesting point of comparison.
When I put on the Rift I was amazed by how great everything felt when you moved your head. It’s an experience unlike anything else being made right now. When I took the headset off, however, reality set in. My eyes had adjusted to how things are supposed to happen when my head turned when wearing the headset, and when the real world didn’t move quite the same way there was a slight disorienting feeling.
The new predictive motion software in the Rift eliminated this entirely, making it easy for users to move around and allows the game to offer a more accurate representation of physics. It’s a relatively small change, but the difference that it made can’t be overstated.
Outside of the work being done by partnering with Valve and John Carmack, Oculus has implemented their own Unity support. The demonstrations of the Unity engine are stunning as long as the computer you are using is able to maintain 60 fps. In one of the demonstrations the computer stuttered in a crowded area, and the frame drop is an incredibly jarring experience because it feels like your whole world is dropping those frames.
The Unity demonstrations also showed off how traveling at different speeds will affect the user. While wearing an Oculus Rift, there’s really no need to be sprinting at a superhuman speed like you would in Unreal Tournament. In fact, the current hardware blurs the image slightly as high speeds, which is something we’ve been assured won’t happen with the higher quality screens in the developer kits.
The most interesting thing about Oculus, moving forward, is going to be the levels of support any particular game offers it. Right now, there’s a lot of gimmicky things in video games to try and create an immersive experience on the flat screen. The Rift occupies your entire field of vision, and because of this there’s no need for the bobbing motion that simulates walking in every single game that was made in the last decade.
I think games that have been fully optimized for Rift will take users to a whole new place when it comes to playing games, but game developers that just offer a graphical port could do more harm than good for the game being played. It doesn’t take long to see how much more complicated an environment would have to be in order to look nice to a Rift user, but developers who put in the time will likely be richly rewarded.
CES 2013 has shown us some amazing pieces of technology ranging from amazing 4K televisions, to Steam’s own PC gaming structures so you can play in the living room, we’ve seen the Oculus Rift come to life. But the best piece of technology we will soon get our hands on in the Xbox Illumiroom by Microsoft.

The Illumiroom is a piece of technology that scans the room you’re playing in and it begins to project game images onto the wall to furthre immerse the viewer/player into the game. This is done with a couple small devices that would be placed somewhere in the room or near your television. Now this technology won’t make it’s way to the current Xbox 360 or Kinect. But it will become incorporated into the next Xbox, Xbox 720 (Durango), or could be a bi-product of Kinect 2.0
With the new year fast approaching, the buzz regarding the next generation of consoles is increasing. What will we learn this year of the Xbox 720 and Playstation 4? Only time will tell.
I have to thank the guys that supplied me with this cool accessory for review.
Avenger Controller - Xbox 360:https://avengercontroller.com/store/avenger.html
Avenger Controller - PS3:https://avengercontroller.com/store/avengerps3.html
The Avenger Controller allows you to access your X, Y, and B buttons much faster all without taking your thumbs off the thumb-sticks while your playing. This allows for higher accuracy across all games along with a much more fluent reaction time. The controller accessory also features the ability to attach straps from the extended trigger buttons to the front of the controller where the stand is located. Once these straps are connected, you can adjust the sensitivity thus turning your triggers into hair triggers; responding to the slightest touch.

Sony’s Comeback: http://tinyurl.com/5uxu76r
Sony has “dropped the ball” so to speak recent years. But It seems that their comeback is not a matter of “if”, but a matter of “when”.
iPod Touch Dying: http://tinyurl.com/6hev23x
Over the past three years the iPod Touch has seen significant drops in sales each progressing year. Largely in part due to smart-phones now available that have many more capabilities than the iPod Touch ever did have. With Apple eventually discontinue their line of MP3 players? Or do they have a plan to revamp their entire line?
Micro-Sony: http://tinyurl.com/5vzqzu9
Its very possible we could see Microsoft and Sony actually team up to develop a future console. The reason why is because one, the domain name http://Microsoft-Sony.com was recently purchased. And two, people like to play games on their smart-phones. And with every year smart-phones make massive leaps in their processing and graphical capabilities. Making people less likely to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on a new game-console. The best bet is for the two behemoth companies to team up and make one amazing console. The gamers win, the companies win, third-parties win. It’s money all around!
NASA’s broken promise: http://tinyurl.com/3rjypq4
Anyone who went through the era of the “Space Race” and putting man on the moon can tell you, it was a moment they will never forget. Everyone thought we would start expanding the horizons. That we would start concurring space. NASA believed this would happen and made a very bold-claim. That by the year 2000 we could have a 10,000 person space-colony. Well it’s 2011 and all we have is a dinky International Space Station NASA. Unfortunately this is in large part the government’s fault. Over the past 40 years they have cut NASA’s spending and continue to do so each year.
Next Gen Games: http://tinyurl.com/42hr3vl
We always hear about the next-gen consoles. But never the next-gen games.
Well AMD finally talked about what games will be like on the next installment of the Xbox line. When Microsoft’s new console debuts, AMD claims, the console will be capable of graphics that were used in the top-selling movie of all time. Avatar. That’s a very bold claim to make but theyre standing by it. As well, AMD said a game like Grand Theft Auto could have every single person on the street with their own unique personalities and own reactions to any given scenario.

Facebook recently partnered with Skype (owned by Microsoft) to introduce video-chat features to Facebook. The announcement was a feature many have already known and expected. What we all expect next is some sort of partnership between Facebook and Microsoft. It’s even been speculated that Microsoft will buy Facebook for somewhere around a $250 million price-tag.

Verizon recently got rid of their unlimited data plans and to usher in their “new” set of data-caps, they released a new phone, the Droid 3. In all honesty the Droid 3 isn’t all that it was hyped up to be. It boasts a 1Ghz dual-core processor, a 4” qHD screen, an 8MP camera, and a slide-out keyboard. These are features seen on just about every Android phone released this year. Some even come equipped with a 10MP camera. So I wouldn’t say the Droid 3 is big news at all, it’s not really a phone to draw in any new customers to Verizon even.

Space Shuttle Atlantis made it’s final voyage to the International Space Station this morning. It carried four passengers to the space station without any hiccups or flaws. NASA will now be sending United States Astronauts on rides with other countries due to the cut-backs the government forced upon NASA late last year. The goal now is for NASA to save-up funds for a manned flight to Mars within the next decade.

The internet has blown-up with iPhone 5 rumors over the past few days as people await some sort of announcement from Apple regarding the new phone. What is almost guaranteed is an increased screen resolution, a better camera, a new phone design, and an increase in processor strength. The biggest news is the possible availability of the phone. AT&T and Verizon are already confirmed carriers for the iPhone 5. But its speculated that Sprint and T-Mobile customers could possibly get their paws on the phone as well.
Microsoft made some pretty stellar announcements at their E3 conference this morning. Many Xbox 360 gamers will be pleased with all the announcements made. They started by showing the Kinect, the new onslaught of games it will receive, and the voice command feature being incorporated into gameplay. Microsoft then went on to reveal that an update to the Xbox 360 coming this Fall will bring television, Bing, and YouTube to the console.
After Minecraft was announced for the Xbox 360 this Winter. A massive bomb shell was dropped by Microsoft. Actually…two massive bomb shells. First up was the reiteration of the original Halo, Halo Combat Evolved. Well, they are re-releasing the game for the 10th anniversary of Halo on November 15th. You can expect to see the campaign completely revamped with todays graphics. As well, a multiplayer mode featuring the maps of the old days.
The final announcement was something many of us weren’t sure would ever happen…Halo 4 has been announced for a holiday 2012 release! Microsoft revealed a trailer displaying Master Chief being awaken by Cortana. The ship Chief was stowed away on in the end of Halo 3, was shown being sucked into an unbelievably huge structure. Somewhat resembling the Death Star from Star Wars. Halo 4 is apparently the beginning of a whole new trilogy in Master Chief’s story.
Minecraft has become one of the biggest selling titles of the past year with tens-of-millions of downloads. It’s easily one of the most addicting games in recent years with most users spending countless hours on Minecraft.
At the Microsoft Press Conference at E3 2011, it was officially announced that Minecraft is making it’s console debut this Winter. The game will be exclusively available for the Xbox 360.

With video games surpassing the movie culture now in every-way, it’s no surprise all eyes turn towards the 3 video game corporations at this time of year. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo will fight to not only get the most head turns at the conference. But they’ll attempt to set the bar justs one step higher. Now of course the this conference isn’t about the consoles themselves, it’s about the games.
