Amateur astronomers, NASA, and the Kepler space telescope are all responsible for locating 42 new alien planets, a few like Earth with 20 in the habitable zone around their parent star. So it’s apparent that we are likely not alone in the Milky Way Galaxy after all.

NASA recently released some great news when it comes to the discovery of another planet just like Earth. With the help of amateur astronomers and the Kepler Satellite, they have found 42 alien planets, 20 of which are in the habitable zone for life, and one could have a moon like the planet Pandora in the movie Avatar.
—-YAHOO NEWS ARTICLE—-
A team of amateurs has discovered evidence for 42 alien planets, including a Jupiter-size world that could potentially be habitable, by sifting through data from a NASA spacecraft.
Forty volunteers with the crowd-sourcing Planet Hunters project discovered the new planet candidates, which include 15 potentially habitable worlds and PH2 b, a Jupiter-size planet that the team confirmed to be in the habitable zone of its parent star.
This is the second time Planet Hunters project, which is overseen by Zooniverse, has confirmed a new exoplanet discovery. What’s more, several candidate planets found by the project may be in the habitable zones of their parent stars. These candidates are awaiting confirmation by professional astronomers.
Researchers suggested this bonanza of planets in the so-called Goldilocks zone around a star, a habitable zone in which conditions are liquid water to exist on a planet’s surface and potentially supportlife, could mean there is a “traffic jam” of worlds where life could exist, project officials said.
“These are planet candidates that slipped through the net, being missed by professional astronomers and rescued by volunteers in front of their web browsers,” said the University of Oxford’s Chris Lintott, who helms the Zooniverse, in a statement. “It’s remarkable to think that absolutely anyone can discover a planet.”
Life on an ‘Avatar’-like moon
The planet PH2 b was found using data from NASA’s prolific Kepler Space Telescope and confirmed with 99.9 percent confidence by observations at the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii.
Ph2 b is considered much too large to host life. However, any moons orbiting the planet could be strong candidates, astronomers said. The atmospheric temperature on the planet would range between 86 and minus 126 degrees Fahrenheit (30 and minus 88 degrees Celsius) in the habitable zone.
“Any moon around this newly discovered, Jupiter-sized planet might be habitable,” stated Ji Wang, a postdoctoral researcher at Yale University. He is lead author of a paper about the discoveries, which has been submitted to the Astrophysical Journal and is available on the pre-publishing website Arxiv.
If a theoretical moon were to host life, it would likely have a rocky core, plus a greenhouse atmosphere of some sort that could have liquid water on its surface, the researchers said.
“It’s very similar to what was depicted in the movie ‘Avatar’ — the habitable moon Pandora around a giant planet, Polyphemus,” Wang added.
A telltale dim
Volunteers spotted PH2 b by watching its parent star. As the planet passed in front of the star, the apparent brightness from Earth dimmed.
This is one of two commonly used techniques for finding exoplanets; the other is looking for wobbles in a star’s gravityas a planet speeds around it.
Excluding PH2 b, citizen scientists recently discovered 42 planetary candidates, with 20 of those likely in their respective stars’ habitable regions.
“These detections nearly double the number of gas giant planet candidates orbiting at habitable zone distances,” the paper stated.
Planet Hunters includes participation from Oxford, Yale and several other institutions. Volunteers pour over data from Kepler. Once the strongest candidates are identified, professional astronomers take a look at them.
Planet Hunters has found 48 candidate planets so far. The first confirmed planet, PH1, was revealed in October 2011.

NASA launched their Kepler space telescope back in 2009 with a mission of searching for exoplanets orbiting other stars on our galaxy. As of this moment, there are a few planets astronomers believe could be very similar to Earth and would be great places to harbor alien life, whether it be primal or intelligent. The discovery of such a planet would change religions, change our beliefs, and would be an amazing moment in history as we would know that every time we gazed up at the stars, into the vast universe. We knew there something out there, looking back at us.
NASA Mars Rover Curiosity spots (potential) flower in Mars rock on December 19, 2012. Right now the true identity of the item found in the Mars rock is not known. Some are speculating it could be a flower fossilized within the rock or could be a fossil from a previous living organism. Another idea is that the object found is nothing more than a cluster of minerals lodged within the rock.
It has been ruled out that the item came from the Curiosity rover itself as the item is lodged within the martien surface. Here’s to hoping it’s a fossil of past alien life!
NASA has found evidence of potential life on both Mars and Mercury along with all the building blocks necessary for life to have once thrived on both planets.

NASA’s satellite, Messenger, scanning Mercury’s surface, has found some very surprising details on the planet over the past few days. At first, the satellite found massive amounts of ice trapped in the North and South poles of the planet, even though the majority of the surface reaches a scorching 900 degrees. Now on this ice, they found some sort of a black substance, relatable to tar. Scientists think this substance is amde heavily of carbon materials and it is of organic origin. Now let’s look at Mars. The Mars rover, Curiosity has recently been digging in the same spot and NASA will make an announcement today on their finds. But it’s believed we now know where all the methane on Mars is coming from and that we also have found all the essential building blocks of life on Mars.
So it’s quite possible life was actually once thriving in our own Solar System, that leaves the question, what happened to all that life? Perhaps we’ll find those answers one day on Mars. But before that can happen, we need to find out if any aliens are right next door. Who knows, we could even be Martian descendants.
Astronomers have spotted a Galaxy Far, Far Away and no I’m not talking about the Star Wars trilogy or even the Mass Effect series. No, I’m talking about the oldest known galaxy to man. We just found a galaxy that was born 13.3-billion years ago, and considering that the universe is 13.7-billion years old, this galaxy is one of the elders of our universe.

This far away galaxy spans 600 light years, which to our standards, is quite a long distance. But when compared to our Milky Way galaxy which spans 150,000 light years, it looks absolutely minuscule. In comparison, the Andromeda Galaxy which is the biggest in the Universe (that we know of). Spans 200,000 light years so we’re not far behind from being considered the big goys on the block.
Talking to aliens, and potentially making first contact, could actually be illegal. This all started back when Professor Brian Cox attempted to aim a radio telescope at an outer planet to test the theory of contacting aliens and eavesdropping on them. Now even though this event occurred back in January of 2012, BBC Radio is still debating on what the policies should be in the event that extra-terrestrials are contacted. Many believe this type of event could potentially cause harm to the human race while others invite first contact with open arms. Now its being debated within many media companies as to how we should handle this situation, ultimately though, this decision will surely find itself in the United Nations once first contact actually occurs.

New video regarding aliens is going up soon.
Penn State Professors are going to spend the next couple years looking for Dyson Spheres. Basically massive balls in space that aliens would use to gather solar energy. The only problem with this premise is that there is no proof whether or not these things exist. It’s all a mere fabrication, and in my eyes, a waste of time and money. Now in regards to real technology, Natcore Technology is making some real progress. They have created the world’s first Black Silico Cell capable to transferring almost 100% of all solar energy absorbed into usable electricity. Many are viewing this as the first commercially viable solution to alternative energy for the future.

Felix just set two world records on October 14th, 2012. He jumped from a capsule that was lifted by a massive air balloon upwards of 128,000 feet. The trip took a few hours, once he reached this height. He jumped out of the capsule in an attempt to not only set the record for the highest point a human has ever jumped from. He also tried to become the first person to ever break the sound-barrier with their body, which he did.
Felix reached a reported, 833 MPH, breaking the sound barrier at Mach 1.24. This man will go down in infamy as one of the most badass people to ever walk on the Earth. I vote we let this man be the first to step on Mars.
Many people believe there is life out there in the universe and I would have to agree with that belief. In fact, there actually is proven life that we have found on asteroids. Now this life may be tiny micro-organisms, but at least it’s a start. I’m also a firm believer that life could easily be found within our very own solar system such as below the surface of Mars and under the surface of Jupiter’s moon, Titan, which is believed to house a massive ocean world.
When it comes to the search for life, there are many people working on this 24/7 like those at SETI or the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. Not to mention some of our most high-powered telescopes are being solely devoted to the search for other life out there. This all leaves a question you need to ask yourself; does life exist in the universe?
